Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., was an American professional boxer, civil rights activist, and cultural icon. Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942, Ali began boxing as a child and quickly rose to prominence as a young athlete, winning a gold medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics. Throughout his career, Ali was known for his unparalleled skill, charisma, and trash-talking, as well as his unapologetic activism against racism and the Vietnam War. He won numerous boxing titles and awards, including three heavyweight championships and the distinction of being the first and only three-time lineal World Heavyweight Champion.
